Old Man Mountain was founded in 1996 with the goal of mounting racks on bicycles without traditional mounting points. The Fit Kits also have some important advantages over mounting with fastening eyes:
- Not all fastening eyelets are suitable for mounting on a luggage rack; most are only intended as mudguard holders and/or have a correspondingly low load capacity.

- By installing the axle, the load capacity of the Old Man Mounatin luggage rack is increased to a whopping 33 kg
- The Fit Kits enable easy assembly/disassembly between different bikes or from front to rear wheel with just a few screws
